Today's prompt was to take a "Now and Then" image- and I admit I was at a loss for while. I as read the email for what seemed like the 100th time, I noticed a suggestion to have the subject hold a photograph of themselves at an earlier age- Great Idea!
I chose this shot of Max as an infant. I know he is less than a month old- my guess is that he is about 2 weeks old here. Today my handsome boy is 10 years old- the time has flown by.
I finally was able to get a good image for the first day-" what they do". Max LOVES to drink Coke- I generally have to say no to his request- but this is a shot of a yes moment.
Come and join in the fun! Just click the Joy of Love button in the right sidebar.
Today's assignment was to capture "how they look" I took this picture of Kevin and converted it to B&W. I love the hard edges and strong feeling this shot has. It really is how he is. I often say with Kevin there only black and white- he doesn't have gray in his box of Crayolas- and I love that about him as much as it frustrates me.
It's cold here today- I don't think we are over 50 degrees today here in The Valley of the Sun. Sunny yes- warm no.
I
started taking willette {classic children's portraiture} free Joy of
Love class for this month! Today was day ONE and the theme is - "What
they Do". I am not in love with any photo I got of Max- as he got home after dark or Jack.
The premise if the class is that you get a new prompt and instruction every day for the entire month. The bonus is you get 28 pictures of the ones you love the most. I am going to use these as my POTD (Picture Of The Day) for the month. I will post pictures tomorrow- right now the Canon is recharging and the new printer doesn't have a slot for the CF card.
What have I got to lose- it's free! Will you join me?
1. Got the courage today to go in and complain about Max's classroom situation. Left feeling ok, but still worried about being the bitchy mom who is unsympathetic to the fact that one of his teacher's had a young child with cancer. There are 2 teachers who alternate weeks- a crappy situation at best in my opinion, but that means that Max has one week of regular school and then a week of 5 different substitutes. Fourth grade sucks. I had a crappy teacher, my niece had a crappy teacher- I think it is just the 4th grade. 5th grade will be better.
2. Went to Mass this morning! A great bonus after my meeting a the school. I got to work later than planned- but Target will survive. Fr. Oliver said mass this morning- I didn't realize that I was so in need of a good old Irish priest's homily about St Thomas Aquinas. It's amazing to get exactly what you need from mass- something I often forget. I wish I was able to go each morning to mass- I know it isn't my "season" for it- but I still wish a vibrant traditional catholic parish would pop up on the corner near work.
3. Today is the Feast day for St Thomas Aquinas, Max's patron Saint for 2011. Don't have a patron for this year? go over to Your Patron Saint send an email and you can have one too. Mine is St Goeffery of Clairvaux- he's pretty obscure and not sure why he chose me yet. Kevin Got St Celestine the only Pope to resign, and Jack was chosen by St Anthony of Padua.
4. It's gymnastic meet weekend for us- our gym hosts, but Max isn't strong enough yet from his broken arm and surgery in November to compete. We still have to volunteer, so there goes the ENTIRE weekend. Trying to be happy- still a little bitter.
5. Started thinking about Lent today- I know its early yet. Thinking maybe we will do a devotion as a family. We recently took an hour ( once a month) of perpetual adoration on at our parish- this would be a nice complement.
6. Heard nothing again today from the Dr's office about my "elevated" thyroid. Will call again on Monday.
7.Trying to blog more- aiming for 3 posts next week.
rain in the desert today, and so much hail it appears like snow. Not typical for this time of year. Our neighbhood suffered a lightening strike and we have upwards of 100 trees that are down. Needless to say we are glad that we replaced the roof in February. Prayers for the several families in our neighborhood who now have trees in their houses.
1. Elmo and Katy Perry. I think Sesame Street made the right call in pulling this before it aired. There is NO REASON why she could have a less revealing top on. Although personally I think they made have pulled it because she is such a bad lip syncher. Judge for yourself...
2. I've been consistent with my walking over the past week. You can see for yourself here I have read that it is helpful to be public when you start a new program- it helps to keep you accountable! It's been hard to navigate finding an open track with all the high school football going on- hopefully that will improve as I don't enjoy the road walking I have been forced to do.
3. An update from last week on Gabbee...her genetic testing was negative and the mass they removed form her breast was smaller than they originally though. Also, the cancer has not spread to her lymph nodes- all positives! She is recovering at home, but in a great deal of pain and discomfort from her mastectomy. Continued prayers for her healing and peach are appreciated- she still has long road ahead of her with Chemo.
4. Do you love Target? Have you heard about the new 5% off every day you could be receiving every time you shop? Starting in the middle of October every time you shop at target and pay with a Target Visa, Target Red Card or the Target Debit card ( just like writing a check) you will get 5% off your total EVERY DAY! I have a debit card and I love it- so much easier than writing a check, and Target give 2% back of my purchase to the school of my choice - the program is called Take Charge of Education. I love that Target does this on the debit card in addition to the credit cards.
5. A girl called here yesterday looking for Max( age 9.5)- do I need to say anything else-ACK!!!!!!!
6. I failed to make a meal plan this week- will try to get back on the ball for next week. We didn't even make any new dishes this week.
7. We have a busy weekend of activities including Max serving Mass on Sunday morning- his first scheduled time. He has been serving as a fill in since June almost every week- but this is the first "official" time as he called it.
